MLB News & Notes: September 26
Get caught up on the news from Thursday with the fantasy impacts that follow.
Tarik Skubal (SP - DET)
AJ Hinch said Skubal would likely sit out the weekend series for the Tigers, and less they are in a must-win on Sunday. This makes sense, as it would line Skubal up for a GM1 start in the Wild Card round.
Sean Manaea (SP - NYM)
Manaea will start the Mets game on Friday. The Saturday and Sunday starters are still TBD.
Vinnie Pasquantino (1B - KC)
Pasquantino took batting practice on Thursday. It was versus a pitching machine, but Pasquantino looked great, hitting many home runs. He’s ahead of schedule and could join the Royals for the Wild Card Round.
Zach Neto (SS - LAA)
Neto left Thursday’s game with a shoulder injury after sliding into second base. This is not the first time this has happened this season, as Neto has been dealing with a shoulder injury for a while. Neto said he was fine, but Ron Washington said that Neto would sit on Friday and that they would determine the rest of the weekend on Saturday.
Alek Thomas (OF - ARI)
On Thursday, Thomas was recalled from AAA to add depth to the DBacks bench.
Ryne Nelson (SP - ARI)
Nelson was activated from the IL on Thursday. Nelson threw well before hitting the IL and could see some critical innings over the weekend. Yilber Diaz returned to AAA.
Mark Leiter Jr. (RP - NYY)
Leiter was placed on the paternity list on Thursday. Scott Effross was recalled to take Leiter’s spot for a few games.
Nick Mears (RP - MIL)
Mears was activated from the IL on Thursday. Kevin Herget returned to AAA.
Jose Miranda (3B - MIN)
Miranda was scratched from Thursday’s lineup. He is dealing with lower back tightness and is day-to-day. Austin Martin got the start in Miranda’s place.
Jair Camargo (C - MIN)
Camargo was recalled from AAA as Christian Vazquez is away from the team dealing with a personal matter. Simeon Woods Richardson was sent to AAA after his recent start, as his season is over.
Miguel Rojas (SS - LAD)
Rojas left Wednesday’s game with an injury. On Thursday, it was determined that Rojas has a tear in his left abductor muscle. He’ll need offseason surgery, but for now, he took a cortisone shot and will play through the pain.
Brusdar Graterol (RP - LAD)
Graterol was placed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation. Ben Casparius was recalled from AAA.
Austin Barnes (C - LAD)
Barnes was activated from the IL on Thursday. Hunter Feduccia returned to AAA.
Clayton Kershaw (SP - LAD)
Kershaw continues to have setbacks in his rehab and will not be a viable option for the Dodgers for two to three weeks.
Anthony Banda (RP - LAD)
Banda was activated from the IL on Thursday. Brent Honeywell was placed on the IL with a cracked right middle fingernail.
Freddie Freeman (1B - LAD)
Freeman left Thursday’s game after twisting his ankle trying to avoid a tag. He’ll be further evaluated, but I expect Freeman to miss time this weekend as the Dodgers have wrapped up the NL West. X-rays returned negative, but he left the game with crutches and a walking boot. He’s expected to be ready for the NLDS.
