MLB News & Notes: August 29
Catch up on the news from Thursday with the fantasy impacts that follow.
David Hamilton (SS - BOS)
Hamilton was placed on the IL with a fractured index finger that he suffered attempting a bunt on Wednesday. Nick Sogard was recalled from AAA, and Romy Gonzalez could see more playing time.
Rafael Devers (3B - BOS)
Devers was out of the lineup for a third straight game as he deals with his shoulder injury. He’s considered day-to-day.
Ryan Pressly (RP - HOU)
Pressly was activated from the IL on Thursday. Bryan King returned to AAA.
Jason Heyward (OF - HOU)
The Astros made it official on Thursday, signing Heyward to a major league contract. Heyward should play regularly versus RHP while Kyle Tucker remains out. Janson Junk was DFA’d.
Gio Urshela (3B - ATL)
Urshela was out of the Braves lineup for the second straight game as he deals with groin soreness. He’s day-to-day as he’s filling in for Austin Riley.
Austin Barnes (C - LAD)
Barnes was activated from the IL on Thursday. Hunter Feduccia returned to AAA.
Justin Wrobleski (SP - LAD)
Wrobleski is expected to make a spot start on Sunday for the Dodgers, taking Tyler Glasnow’s spot in the rotation.
Freddie Freeman (1B - LAD)
Freeman missed his third straight game while dealing with a finger injury. He’s considered day-to-day.
Alec Bohm (3B - PHI)
Bohm left Thursday’s game with left-hand discomfort he suffered after a swing in the first inning. X-rays came back negative, but Bohm will undergo further testing.
Vinnie Pasquantino (1B - KC)
Pasquantino left Thursday’s game in the 8th inning after a collision with Yanier Diaz. He was in serious pain at the time. He will undergo further testing. If Pasquantino misses time, Salvador Perez could slide over to 1B, with Freddie Fermin getting regular at-bats at catcher and Paul DeJong getting more at-bats at DH.
Lucas Erceg (RP - KC)
Erceg left Thursday’s game after taking a comebacker off his throwing hand. He will undergo further testing. If Erceg misses time, James McArthur could find his way back into the closing role for the Royals.
Nick Nastrini (SP - CWS)
Nastrini was recalled on Thursday to make the spot start for the White Sox. Nastrini pitched well, throwing six innings while allowing one run and striking out three. Sammy Peralta returned to AAA.
Patrick Bailey (C - SF)
Bailey was activated from the IL on Thursday. Andrew Knapp was DFA’d.
Will Vest (RP - DET)
Vest was activated from the paternity list on Thursday. Mason Englert returned to AAA.
Jack Leiter (SP - TEX)
Leiter was returned to AAA on Thursday after making a spot start as the 27th man on Wednesday. Leiter is in line for a call-up next week to join the Rangers rotation.
DL Hall (SP - MIL)
Hall is expected to be recalled as the Brewers' 27th man on Friday, and he should start one of the games in the doubleheader.
Brandon Leibrandt (RP - CIN)
Leibrandt was recalled from AAA on Thursday. He threw 2.1 innings and can be used as a long reliever or spot starter when the Reds need help. Casey Kelly was DFA’d.
Yunior Marte (RP - PHI)
Marte was recalled from AAA, while Michael Mercado returned to AAA.
Samuel Aldegheri (SP - LAA)
Aldegheri will be promoted to make his MLB debut on Friday. Aldegheri has made 19 starts between High-A and AA this season with a 3.59 ERA over 95.1 innings pitched with 134 strikeouts.
Caden Dana (SP - LAA)
Dana will be promoted to make his MLB debut as the Angels starter on Sunday. The 20-year-old made 23 starts at AA this season with a 2.52 ERA and 147 strikeouts over 135.2 innings pitched.
Tylor Megill (SP - NYM)
Megill will be recalled to make the start in Paul Blackburn’s spot in the rotation. Dedniel Nunez will be placed on the IL with right forearm tightness.
Taijuan Walker (SP - PHI)
The Phillies finally removed Walker from the starting rotation due to his poor performance. Tyler Phillips is expected to be recalled from AAA and reenter the rotation.
Steven Matz (SP - STL)
Matz is expected back this weekend after a lengthy stint on the IL. He’ll pitch out of the bullpen this weekend or start sometime next week.
