MLB News & Notes: August 28

J.P. Crawford (SS - SEA)
Crawford was activated from the IL on Wednesday. He was back at leadoff and went 0-3 with a walk and a run scored. Dominic Canzone was sent to AAA.
Hunter Greene (SP - CIN)
Greene will not throw for two more weeks as he waits for his inflammation to go down. He is a drop in all formats, and it seems he may be out for the rest of the season.
Rhett Lowder (SP - CIN)
Lowder will be promoted to make his MLB debut starting Game 2 of Friday’s doubleheader. Throughout 22 starts from High-A to AAA, Lowder had a 3.64 ERA with 113 strikeouts over 108.2 innings pitched.
Miguel Andujar (OF - OAK)
Andujar was placed on the IL with a core muscle injury. Daz Cameron has been playing in Andujar’s absence. Nick Allen was recalled from AAA.
Rafael Devers (3B - BOS)
Devers was held out of his second straight game with shoulder soreness. He’s day-to-day, but the shoulder has bothered Devers all season.
Liam Hendriks (RP - BOS)
Hendriks is set to make two more rehab appearances this week, and after one or two more appearances next week, Hendriks should be ready to rejoin the Red Sox. Hendriks has been out due to Tommy John Surgery.
Ben Brown (SP - CHC)
Brown has been at the Cubs Arizona Complex but has yet to get ramped up as he’s returning from a neck injury. On Wednesday, the Cubs said Brown will likely miss the rest of the season.
Weston Wilson (3B - PHI)
Wilson was activated from the paternity list on Wednesday. Buddy Kennedy returned to AAA.
Joan Adon (RP - WAS)
Adon was placed on the IL with a right triceps strain. Orlando Ribalta was recalled from AAA.
Xavion Curry (SP - MIA)
The Marlins recalled Curry from AAA on Wednesday, sending Roddery Munoz back to AAA.
Austin Kitchen (RP - MIA)
Kitchen was recalled from AAA to add bullpen depth. Jonathan Bermudez returned to AAA.
Rowdy Tellez (1B - PIT)
Tellez left Wednesday’s game with an injury in the 8th inning.
Freddie Freeman (1B - LAD)
Freeman missed his second straight game while dealing with his lingering finger injury. He’s day-to-day and will get regular rest until he’s healthy for the postseason.
Tyler Glasnow (SP - LAD)
Glasnow is expected to begin a throwing program on Friday. The Dodgers will likely take things slow with Glasnow to ensure he’s healthy for the postseason.
Austin Barnes (C - LAD)
Barnes is expected to be activated from the IL on Thursday. When he’s been healthy, he’s split playing time with Will Smith.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (SP - LAD)
Yamamoto was solid over two innings in his first rehab start. He’ll need two or three more rehab starts before rejoining the Dodgers before the end of the season.
Patrick Bailey (C - SF)
Bailey is expected to be activated from the IL on Thursday. He’s been struggling as the season has gone on. Curt Casali has been filling in for Bailey while he’s been out.
Clarke Schmidt (SP - NYY)
Schmidt was great in his first rehab start. He started his second rehab on Wednesday, striking out five over three innings. He’ll make one more start next week before rejoining the Yankees.
Luis Gil (SP - NYY)
Gil will make a rehab start at the beginning of next week and hopefully rejoin the Yankees after that start.
Anthony Rizzo (1B - NYY)
The Yankees will reevaluate Rizzo on Thursday. He appears close to returning, but we will await the test results.
Tylor Megill (SP - NYM)
The Mets will call Megill and make the start on Friday. It appears Megill will take Paul Blackburn’s spot in the rotation.
Erik Sabrowski (RP - CLE)
Sabrowski was recalled from AAA. Anthony Gose was DFA’d yet again.
David Hamilton (2B,SS - BOS)
Hamilton left Wednesday’s game after injuring his finger on a bunt attempt in the 8th inning.
Nick Nastrini (SP - CWS)
Nastrini will be called up on Thursday to make the start for the White Sox.
