2024 Early Third Base Rankings
The third base position has been shallow in recent years. It has been a top-heavy position of late, too, which was showcased again in 2023 with six third basemen being drafted in the first 36 picks and only two more drafted in the top 100.
Third base is also a position that is steals-deprived. Outside of Jose Ramirez, Bobby Witt Jr, and Ha-Seong Kim, there weren’t many other players drafted that stole over ten bases. That will change a bit in 2024, but not much.
Looking into 2024, we have some newer, young faces joining the position, but Witt Jr also leaves. It will be a position to focus on power and counting stats while finding steals elsewhere. There’s a reason the studs go early as things dry up quickly, which was discussed on Bubba and the Bloom EP 83.
Now, to the rankings. These are preliminary rankings. A LOT will change before the heavy draft season. Don’t worry; I’ll update frequently, and eventually, there will be a Google Doc you’ll have access to where you’ll see the constant updates. For now, this is a starting point and a tool for more open discussion. Enjoy!!!
